Understory begins with close attention to the forest and natural world—to its shifting light, layered textures, and quiet cycles of growth, decay, and renewal. Through an intuitive process of building and reworking paint, these observations move beyond representation, becoming reflections on memory, perception, and lived experience. Shapes, colour, and mark-making evolve over time, creating paintings that explore the relationship between the natural world and our inner landscapes. Rather than depicting a specific place, the work invites a sense of connection to the ground beneath us, the living systems that sustain us, and the ways we carry the landscape within us.
